from apple to android
I bought an Android phone to replace my iPhone 5!!!
Here's my experience transitioning to android from apple iOS.
The phone is the
ONEPLUS ONE (
https://oneplus.net/)and isn't available in Singapore yet. I bought it when I was in the USA. Not only that, you need an invite from an existing owner. It was difficult to obtain it and I really dislike their marketing (shaming other phone brands) but let's ignore that for now and take a look at the price and specs:
Price (64GB): $363USD (=$470SGD)
Specs:
I'm not a specs pro but I've been told it surpasses most smartphone brands, and the RAM and CPU look extremely close to a computer's specs. The battery capacity is also high. For this price, I really wanted this phone.
I've been using it for a week and still get excited to use it!!! :D
TL;DR: I FUCKING LOVE MY PHONE AND I'M NEVER GOING BACK TO APPLE.
Pros:
- It's not Apple
- My battery lasts all day, that's when I use it non stop for hours. My iphone on the other hand, dies within 2 hours.
- It has never lagged, extreme smooth transitions
- Splendid big screen display
- Back button so you can go back anytime very fast
- Swipey keyboard with orgasmic vibration feedback
- TONS OF COOL RINGTONeS
- FUCKING THEMING AND CUSTOMIZATION I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT.
Everything down from your start screen to keyboard are customizable
- I also have a sticky note widget to remind me of stuff
- WEATHER ON THE FRONT PAGE AHSGAYVGFHA
- Custom lock screen FSDSFSSJDS
- As you can see I turned all my icons into pokeballs. It's definitely not the best icon set but I LOVE IT OK!!
Change your font to ANYTHING!!!
Cons:
- No pressy home button
- Interface of apps places important menu buttons at the top. NO ONE HOLDS THEIR HANDS AT THE TOP OF THE PHONE SO WHY DID THEY DO THIS?!!!
- Apple's camera is better. Default camera app for Android is crap and gives me many blurry photos. I'm now using Google camera, which is faster. But yeah, Apple camera hands down.
- No default Notes app. Just go download one you lazy fuck
- Default lock screen doesn't show detailed notifications. Download a custom lock screen app. Takes some time to set up notification popups.
- App icons don't have the notification number, have to swipe down from top to view all notifications.
- Phone is a little big for my tiny hands. BUT I have swiftkey (custom keyboard) that lets me minimize the keyboard and shift it to the right so my right thumb can swipe it fully. SADLY swiftkey doesn't have word shortcuts yet :(
disappointment and hurt
From my previous post, people have asked me what I was upset about. It's a range of things. From stuff as small as people
being late, to stuff like people
flaking out
But I think I am upset at this the most. It's a long story and tiring to repeat so I'll just write what happened here.
- As a computing student, I plan on focusing on User Experience (UX).
- A UX module I took was CS3240, and I topped the module with an A+.
- Since then I felt that I had hope in this world of technology and have been wanting to be a Teaching Assistant (TA) for it since.
- Last semester, one of the TA's asked me if i wanted to TA but unfortunately I had a clashing module so I couldn't. So I vowed to free space for it next semester.
- I emailed the professor about my interest, who did not reply. So I didn't pursue the matter.
- But suddenly, a month ago while I was deciding modules, the same TA asked me to teach some afternoon slots he could not make it to.
- I sent the professor ANOTHER EMAIL to confirm and she did not reply again. He assured me not to worry because it's "very likely confirmed". So we agreed on what slots he'll take and what slots I'll take.
- Happily I told my good friends I was going to be a TA. I was very excited and this was really important to me.
- A month passed, and everyone had decided on their modules and bidding for round 1 was over.
- He suddenly notified me that the professor doesn't want me anymore.
- I asked why.
- He said not only there was another candidate, there are too few students and he apologised for giving me misleading information. He also said the professor was making him take my slot.
- I told him I only bidded for 3 modules because I thought I was going to TA, while he was taking 6 modules, so could he ask the professor to give me just one slot.
- He asked her and she said no.
- I was extremely upset and had to replan my entire timetable in the middle of the bidding process. I had to tell all my friends, whom I excitedly and happily gave the news to, that it was called off.
I'm not that upset that I didn't get to TA.
I'm upset because I wasn't a slightest bit significant enough to warrant a reply or at least an update of the situation. The professor waited months to drop this bomb on me. Her refusal to reply made me think that the other TA was my bridge of communication. Hence I believed him. (He's not at fault because he really thought it was confirmed).
Now I do not know how to face her. I was going to look for her about my final year project and even recommendations for when I apply to masters.
Who else do you look to for recommendations, if not the professor of the module you topped?
I'm disappointed because I never knew she would treat me that way.
NUS's UX department is really small. I don't know any other professors I could ask recommendations from, when my Masters application comes. Of course, now that I'm too hurt to face her anymore, I have to look elsewhere.

Musho's SAI techniques
Whoops I suddenly found these in my drafts somewhere cuz i forgot to post them. I waited to post these because i wanted to put in image samples of the tips but now I'm too lazy. So, presenting to you in a messy format, my tips and tricks for Paint Tool SAI!!
- TOOL TRICK
- Set the watercolor tool to 100% for your very own blur tool
- SHORTCUT
- If you want to finish an artwork fast, use thicker lines - less precision needed when shading later and easier for magic wand to detect
- Thicken corners and edges for a more defined and dimensional lineart
- Basically assigning ur frequent brushes and tools to keyboard shortcuts for effortless switching
- To colour an area of the same colour, magic wand it, then go to Selection then Increment to slightly increment your selected area. Then fill. TADAH. Area CG'ed.
- BEAUTY TRICK
- Before starting to do shadows, gradient the flat colours for added oomph. To do this, anyhow swipe some darker colour on the bottom half of the coloured area, then use blur tool to make a gradient.
- For your art to pop up, add shine by lining edges with a light colour.
