This is my hair hacks post
Also my first beauty post/product review, kinda.
Makeup reviews will come one day...!
But meanwhile,
I'll be going through:
- Hair care products
- Hair curling
- DIY Hair Dyeing
- Cutting your own hair
- Tweezing your eyebrows
- Oily fringe problems
I like my hair a lot; it gets me the most compliments! That's why it's my first beauty post.
Can you tell me if I should
split them up into different posts?
1. Hair care products
Here are the shampoos I used before phasing them out.
They are not bad, just that I found better products.
- Essentials (Sweet smelling, makes hair soft, but feels heavy and oily)
- Sunsilk (best lather, feels clean, but conditioner does nothing. Could be too stripping)
- Pantene (not bad overall but it's not like omg super gr8)
- L'Oreal (not bad overall but too pricey for the quality.)
- Dove (DON'T USE - this leaves stuff in your hair. Silicones or sulphates I can't rmb)
- Monsoon (I got this at venus, it's like their best seller but it's nothing great and doesn't lather.)
Here are the brands I'm currently using.
Tresemme
Tresemme is a relatively good brand and comes cheap during Guardian's BOGO sales. (2x900ML for $14.90). I find it better than the commonly used brands above. It claims to be salon quality stuff! IMO, this is the best brand you can get for the price.
- The shampoo foams and cleans well. Doesn't strip my blue hair color.
- The conditioner makes my hair super soft, spreads nicely and a little goes a long way! Also very light!
- Only downside is that the fragrance is weak and smells ok only.
- I also have their hair treatment which is like an ultra conditioner and never fails to make my hair fucking soft.
Shiseido Tsubaki
I used the damage care range a few years ago and I'm not sure why I switched. I guess I like trying different brands and scents. Anyway, Tsubaki has lots of raves from users!! It had a new head spa *gold* range which I wanted to try because it's... gold.
I only have the
conditioner and I think I prefer it to the Tresemme one, because it somehow makes my hair
detangled, soft and airy!! ^^ It has their signature camellia
scent which I like! (。’▽’。)♡
Their shampoo should be the same as last time when I used it, which is not bad, around the same as Tresemme, just with a nicer scent.
The downside is that it's quite expensive, $20 for a 550ml bottle if you get from Watsons, but you can get it
HALF PRICE at those neighbourhood beauty stores like Swanston and Venus.
Now for treatments.
Treatment - ACV
Sometimes I spread Apple Cider Vinegar in my hair before shampooing.
Pro: It will make your hair feel FUCKING SOFT AND AWESOME. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Con: It smells like GODAWFUL raccoon puke. 。゜(`Д´)゜。
Just look at the critical acclaim this food dressing has on the internet.
Makeupalley reviews
here. Look at ALL THE RAVES.
Anyway, I use this brand (
Bragg) that everyone uses. The trick is to
USE THIS BRAND ONLY... because other brands don't work as well as this!! You can get this at NTUC for $6... it's really cheap cos it's food.
Confume leave-in argan oil treatment
I got this online on qoo10
here, after hearing good stuff about argan oil.
I think I paid $16 for 145ml of treatment oil.
Use it on dry hair. :D
It makes hair soft and smells
super good.
It's a little
watery, like the consistency of olive oil.
But imo, for this effect, you can also use jojoba oil too. :)
Liese Juicy Shower Hair Mist
Does
nothing.
Has raspberry scent.
So buy if you want to be a raspberry princess or something, i dunno.
I thought this would be like hair cocktail, I was wrong.
Liese Hair Cocktail
This one is better. It detangles hair.
Spray it on before combing :)
I stopped buying it coz it was expensive, $13.90.
Such a cute bottle too ;_;
If it was cheaper, I would keep using because spraying is very convenient.
2. Curling hair
Omg this will be super fun to write.
HAIR CURLER IS ONE OF MY
BEST INVESTMENTS.
Here's my curler.
BaByLiss PRO Ceramic Tools Curling Iron CT100s
"I'm not a dildo.
Use me only if you want a fried vagina."
I got it at
SGD$64.
I think it's very cheap for this brand, BaByLiss.
Most people buy curlers for $100.
I got it from
this qoo10 shop.
Barrel size.
When you choose, think about your hair type.
I got the
1 inch (25mm) size which I think is good for straight hair girls who want celebrity style waves. I wanted
1.25 inch (32mm) but my friend advised me not to because she said straight hair will definitely loosen up its curls.. and she was right. You'll see in my photos later.
So my review will be for the 25mm one.
If you want to see the 32mm effects, michelle phan has it
here.
But I don't think it's accurate as you need to see how curls loosen up.
I'm definitely not an expert!!! (o´・_・)っ
But I like the results.
Tips:
- When curling, go in the same direction of the hair around the barrel.
- Don't grab too thick bunches or your hair won't be curled properly (only the bottom ends will curl.)
- Find the best heat setting. Mine is 21-23. :)
Process and Review
Here, this is me curling.
It becomes this:
0 mins:
Right after curling, your hair will look like this piece of shit below. It takes me 10 mins to do this.
They literally they look like poop curls.
15mins : Now, just comb your hair and you will get this.
I like it more when I shift
all my hair to the side.
6-8hrs : At the end of the day, my curls actually STAY!1!! 。(⌒∇⌒。)
tl;dr: hair curling is fucking awesome and every girl should try it.
3. Dyeing hair
So far I've received the most comments and questions on my hair colour.
My main hair colour right now is:
La Riche Directions Atlantic Blue
But actually, I mix in some
Plum, Turquoise and Midnight Blue too, and gradient it out.
The effect can't really be seen.
That's why I think Atlantic Blue should be enough!!!
It is a really nice dark blue with purple undertones.
Price
I get it on ebay.
But recently qoo10 started selling,
here! Might try!
SGD$11 a jar which will last like 3 dyes.
I used to have Special Effects brand Pink dip dye,
And it's not bad but I prefer the Directions jar because it's easier to scoop dye out.
Before dyeing
You have to
bleach your hair.
I bleached my hair 7-8 times to get that almost white colour.
Too much yellow will turn my blue into green.
Beware, this will severely damage your hair.
Fortunately, the damage won't be so visible after you dye it.
For this you need:
1. Bleach powder
2. Developer
This is my cheapass $2 bleach powder from Venus
Schwarzkopf 12% developer
Mix them together into a paste inside a bowl,
(i don't really know about proportions, do what feels right lol, things will be fine)
apply on hair parts you want to highlight,
and wait for an hour.
Dyeing
So now you got your gross damaged bleached hair
Time to cover it up with
badass COLEORZSE!!!!!!!!1
When you scoop dye, be sure to wear
gloves.
I just buy those cheapass plastic kitchen gloves from any mama shop.
It's like, $1 for 100 of them man.
very jar, such kolersz
my faded hair
so fade, much old
cape prevent much stain
this is me putting turquoise on my lower ends
observe color difference
much wow
such beautiful mess
End result:
before | after
This lasts
5-6 weeks, then it goes back to the "before" colour again.
4. Cutting your hair
i've been cutting my fringe for 4 years on my own,
saving myself lots of money.
I've also helped friends cut their bangs too.
I like my hairstyle because it's pretty and easy to maintain, once you know how to cut bangs.
Basically, what you need is this
comb style scissors.
I got mine at daiso, but I think you can find them in ABC and beauty shops.
I really can't teach you how to do it.
I have
screwed up in the earlier days of cutting my own hair.
But don't worry, hair grows back very fast.
I hold it at a
45-90 degree angle at the end of my fringe and just snip.
I'm so used to it that I do it virtually blind (I take off my glasses to comb hair down)
Practice makes perfect.
I think everyone with bangs should give this a try! (^v^)
5. Tweezing your eyebrows
Last time, when doing research on tweezers, everyone recommended $30 Tweezerman tweezers.
Today, I realise
$2 daiso tweezers do the exact same job.
I feel a little
pain tweezing my brows, but it's a really nice kind of pain lol.
My brows are far from perfect but I rather it be this way than be its usual caterpillar self.
Sometimes I go to those $10 brow tweezing salons so that they don't fuck up too much.
But maintenance is perfectly doable by oneself!
6. Oily fringe
This review is about
this product,
CoastalScents Silica Powder Spheres
I will let the photos speak for this magical powder thingy.
Here's my disgusting, oily,
not washed for a day hair.
Then I let some powder stick to my fingers,
and rub them across the roots of my fringe.
Mess it up a bit and comb and....
(ノ>▽<。)ノ TADAH.
Instant fix.
not hair related
Lastly, this is a comic I drew in 5 minutes,
submitted to
r/twitchplayspokemon,
and got 602 upvotes.
I drew it when i heard Twitch used a masterball on goldeen.
Then I submitted it to NUS Comics and animation club and they liked it,
so I was like... let me just submit this to reddit.
For such a lame, uninspired comic,
it did so much better than expected 0_0
I'm now very inspired to draw better webcomics!! 。^・ェ・^。
