Huisuan and I were at a Clementi coffeeshop today, waiting for food to be served to us. I was practicing Katakana (カタカナ) on my phone. This elderly man working at the drinks stall asked if we wanted drinks. As he served the drinks to us, he asked if I was studying Japanese. I nodded. He said then when he was 9, he had to learn to read Japanese during the Japanese occupation. That was seventy years ago. He's 84 years old now. He told us about their cruelty. So many people were killed. When they said 杀! he knows his neighbours will be killed. Huisuan and I listened intently. We could only nod with sympathy. It's so rare for the elderly to open up to us and tell us their stories. I wonder what they feel about the Japanese now. I wonder if they know that many youth, like me, are obsessed with Japanese culture. I do not like strangers talking to me, but I would not mind listening to many more elderly tell me about their past. Now I wish my Chinese wasn't so bad, then I would be able to respond with more than just sympathetic nods.

I have a new favourite anime/manga. It's called Akatsuki no Yona!!
It's based on Korean historical drama(?) and is about a sheltered princess being ousted from her kingdom and she becomes this badass girl yooo I can't stop talking about this.
And the main guy protagonist is so damn adorable!!!
I'm almost caught up with the manga but I'm trying not to read it because it's so good and I don't want it to end it's like how you try to prolong orgasms YEAH I LIKE IT THAT MUCH
The soundtrack is also amazingly beautiful
I realized I was commissioned one of the characters, Shin-ah, in Cosfest. The girl seemed happy when she got it but if I watched it earlier I could have put in more emotion into the drawing. I guess there is still time to make character keychains!!~ Sadly, the anime is underrated and also panders more to a female audience.
I heard cans clattering to the floor. I looked up. An elderly janitor was bending down slowly to pick them. Then she struggled to stand upright again. Then she wobbled to the tray clearing station and started doing dishes.
I think I almost cried. I hate seeing elderly with health problems straining themselves to do menial work for meager pay... I hate it. :(
And I'm also reminded about how privileged I am... I have a college education ffs, even have grad school secured... yet I'm so unhappy not having more. I shouldn't be this ungrateful, but somehow I can't stop myself from being upset.
I guess I'm also sad because the main characters in shows I watch are dying lol. Welcome to fandom, Musho.

I used to feel weird not having someone around me, but now I actually prefer being by myself now.
But I feel so unsafe omg. I just read about unsolved crimes in Singapore. I always thought Singapore was really safe but this March, there was a sexual assault in West Coast. And I heard of some crimes that happened many years ago, like the unsolved Tiong Bahru murder of the 4 Tan children and two murder-rapes that happened to jogging women. Argh!

Made lavender lemon shortbread for the second time because the first time turned out so well :) Brought some to school, saw a friend in class and demanded that he eat my food.
Upon saying "food", everybody in class turned around and stared. I only had two cookies left BECAUSE I ATE MOST OF THEM so I gave it to the people who looked the most starving LOL. Their looks of happiness when I gave them cookies! Aah!! I didn't know people would want to eat them. I hope I can bake more for them!!
They also asked me where to get cheap lavender and I told them: $2.20 for a WHOLE JAR at those chinese dried herbs shops. They sell other flowers too, like chamomile. Who knew you could find such jems in neighbourhood shops? :)

We went to Hair Eclipse at Far East Plaza (with groupons!). Second time we went there! Both of us were satisfied with the service and the hairstylists were so pleasant and OMG THEY ACTUALLY COMPLIMENTED MY HAIR COLOR instead of insulting it AAA!???

killing main characters
finally gave in and began reading Akame Ga Kill!
Game of thrones is nothing compared to this.
Everybody's harping about how ned stark is a main character and dies but I really don't think it's a big deal to kill someone off in the first season...
Plus I don't think GOT really has a main character.
If you want to experience the pain of your most loved characters die after many seasons, you could watch Downtown Abbey or Dexter.
Animes I personally like 1. Attack on titan
-pros: spectacular mindblowing plot, much feels, never sexualizes its female characters, brilliant animation, great character development
-cons: main character is an annoying shit for the first two or three episodes JUST GET THROUGH IT + heard the fandom is annoying
2. No game no life
-pros: pretty nice plot, lovely art, follow the lives of two video game geniuses
-cons: sexualization of an 11 year old
3. Akame ga kill
-pros: interesting premise, dynamic and loveable characters, much feels, i appreciate the abundance of strong female characters without the presence of a harem
-cons: gore, torture, rape, main characters dying off very fast
I started forcing myself to watch anime so I can draw them for doujin events, but now I'm quite happy I found these.
I also realized I like all the moe girls lololol
